Reviews
I used Things 2 way back on OSX, and had my first experience with using a hotkey to bring up making new to-dos. Soon after I had to switch back to PC, and always missed Things. I knew it was a good app because it was the only application that tempted me to get an iPhone if I needed to upgrade. Now after many years and other to-do apps I have come back with Things, now in my pocket! I recommend this app because it hides more nuanced features under a well-designed surface. I also recommend manually using the logbook and creating to-dos to cross them off soon after. This encourages the user to not overwhelm themselves with to-dos and instead encourages organization with the areas, projects and headers design elements they’ve created in Things. I would like an option to toggle the number of to-dos listed in the inbox and today when I am on the home-screen, please. That’s about all. Thank you for the app!
ios26 update they changed the Done button to Clear. This is absolutely terrible for those of us that have been using Things 3 since its inception. Who thought this change was a good idea? Fire that person.
I am using iOS26 and whenever I open the app, it crashes. Uninstalled and reinstalled, nothing. Works great on Macbook and iPad tho...
For my day to day work, it is unsurpassed. Rock solid stability and continuous advancement of UI are unique. Just works, and works really, really well.!
For some reason, when setting reminders, the developers decided to change the “done” button to a “clear” (cancel) button. So now I set a bunch of reminders that I’ll never get notifications about because my usual pattern (setting the reminder) is now the opposite (clearing the reminder). Idiotic stuff.
I love Things. It’s the perfect balance of powerful features, simplicity, and beautiful UI. As my needs change, it’s easy to adapt how I use things to support really complex or incredibly simple workflows. I also appreciate how quick Things is at adopting new OS features - it keeps the app feeling fresh. I’ve bought the apps for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. And, I would welcome the change to pay a small subscription fee on top of that to support what I’m sure is the ongoing development expense of thoughtfully keeping the apps up to date with the latest & greatest OS features. Thanks for building great software and making my life easier 🙏🏼.
I have engaged the Cultured Code team about an issue where the keyboard will randomly lose connection for specific buttons (return, CMD, etc). They stated that it is an apple problem but this is the only app this occurs in. If this issue is resolved. I will update to 5 stars because the app is great otherwise.
I was able to benefit immediately from this app with just a few minutes of use. I continue to learn about new features that I find useful. By far the best app I have found for task management, with great calendar management, and useful for simple project management too.
Was a good app years ago. Now it doesn’t grow. I switched to TickTick. Which allows the user to utilize the app on windows and even a web browser. Unbelievable how Things doesn’t even allow a web based version.
Really not a fan of the new Glass UI update they made. To me, it doesn't really make any sense. Things was always an app that was distinctive in its approach to its user interface, acting like virtual paper that separated and expanded. To be honest, the user interface follows principles more similar to Google's Material Design in that fashion. They kind of just shoehorned all of this new rounded shiny UI into the app, and it breaks the magic that they had. It looks tacky.
Okay, so, I am a list maker. I’ve always preferred writing lists down physically on paper. But, lately I’ve been wishing for a better way to keep track of multiple projects, areas, lists, and sublists in one spot. I googled “best to do list app” and was not disappointed. I’ve been using Todoist for a while and even paid for the subscription. It worked, but just didn’t do exactly what I wanted it to. Today, yes I am reviewing the app immediately-something I never do, I was not disappointed. In reviewing the app specifications and recognizing it as a one-time charge I downloaded it immediately. I went through the handy “Meet Things” project and was thrilled with the basics, every single question/desire that came up as I started my own lists, projects, and areas was answered and given. It is obvious that a lot of thought and effort went in to this application. I honestly am so thrilled! Thank you to the developers!
I’ve tried so many other todo apps, none come close to Things 3.
TLDR: find another app. I was a power user with things, but it no longer fits my needs. I never thought I’d write this. Things has always been the best. Always the sharpest looking. Always ready for productivity. Always in Apple’s spotlight. But Things has been slowing down… Today, iOS 26 launched. I woke up hopeful that Things would surprise us by giving us a new feature. Maybe a new UI refresh. Nope. Their update was a barebones update to stay “current”. A glass icon and a glassy like plus button. Wooo thanks! I have bought every version of things. The visionOS release was strike one. A full price for a multi year app that just has translucent sidebars? Come on. I messaged the devs many times asking what most of us are asking and needing: attachment support, better markdown (the current setup is insanely stupid), collaboration, or even a refreshed coat of paint to not look like an older app. The responses we get? Thanks for the feedback, we aren’t doing it. Today, I’m uninstalling things. This big update from them is a joke. To the other devs who listen and keep the magic of Apple software release day still magical, thank you. To Cultured Code, thanks for the great years ranging all the way back to Things 1. You’ve lost your touch, your magic. I hope you find it again and find joy in your work.
I love this app. It’s probably the app I use the most - besides Messages and Safari. The UI is smoother than all the others and postponing tasks until the evening is a game-changer. It’s only missing a quick-list or a ‘starred’ list. I have hundreds of things on my list every day but sometimes I just want to choose a handful at a time to tackle and tags just aren’t practical.
While Things appears to be the most solid to do app, and one I’ve used for years, there is still room for improvement to make it more intuitive. I use a lot of recurring reminders, and each time have to look up how to make them recur in the app. I don’t have this issue with any other app, but Things makes it hard to do, there’s no clear way to make a reminder recurring, instead you have go to to one you already created and find the right place to press to make it recurring. If you have a long task name, you cannot easily get to the exact place to click to make a task recurring. To make this more intuitive, it would be far more helpful if users could make a task recurring upon creation in the same area where we set the time or date reminder. It would make most sense to then be able to set the reminder to be recurring, but that’s not how it works on the app. Please make this easier and more intuitive, as this would greatly improve the user experience.
I can’t open the app anymore, but it did work fine in this beta for 2-3 weeks, no issues.
I need REPEATED daily tasks. Pointless app if it doesn’t do that. It’s also ATROCIOUS to find out that if I want it on my laptop I have to pay another $50????? I would really like a refund. I’ll stick to notion.
I have been using Things 3 for years and it has been working well and very helpful. I recently noticed if I use voice dictation to write my tasks, it won’t save, the second I hit enter or exit dictation mode, all the texts I just dictated disappear. Can this problem be fixed? Thank you.
We need a better dark mode icon asap
So far, it’s wonderful, but I would love to see a way to add different color fonts to make it pop. For example, "IMPORTANT: CALL THE DOCTOR" in red so it stands out more. Thank you!
